Strategy & history

Our strategy is to create value through participation in upstream projects, predominantly in early stage non-operated offshore assets.

Our management team has strong E&P expertise, a track-record of success, and a solid reputation in the industry and financial markets.

Discover Exploration was founded in 2012 by the former management team of Cove Energy plc, following Cove's US$1.9 billion sale to Thailand's national energy company PTT.

Discover's initial funding came from ONH B.V., the holding company of Oranje-Nassau Energie B.V. (now ONE-Dyas B.V.), the largest privately-owned Dutch E&P operating company.

In 2013, CIEP (Carlyle International Energy Partners), a US$2.5 billion fund managed by The Carlyle Group (NASDAQ:CG), made a majority investment in Discover. Carlyle is a global alternative asset manager with US$276 billion of assets under management across 415 investment vehicles.

Since 2012, Discover has acquired upstream assets in 5 countries across Europe, Africa and Australasia. In 2018-2019, Discover acquired 2 companies: Hansa Hydrocarbons (from Avista Capital Partners) and Bahari Resources.
